Computar Lens Connect lenses for 1" sensors.
The Computar LensConnect series is a range of motorized industrial lenses that have been specially developed for remote control via a computer. The connection is primarily via USB 2.0, which enables both power supply and control of focus, aperture, and (in varifocal models) zoom.
Connectivity and interfaces
USB connection:
Most models have an integrated USB 2.0 Type-A connection. According to Computar, USB 2.0 was chosen because the bandwidth of USB 3.0 is not required and 2.0 supports longer transmission distances.
I2C interface:
For integration into embedded systems (e.g., with FPGAs), Computar offers versions with an I2C interface that enable direct control via compatible cameras or controllers.
Plug-and-play:
The lenses are powered via the USB cable (5V, approx. 200–350 mA), so no external power source or batteries are required.
Software and control:
Operating systems:
Computar provides its own control software that is compatible with Windows and Linux.
Programming languages:
SDKs and libraries for C#, C/C++ (32/64-bit), and Python (currently 64-bit only) are available for developers.
Functions:
The software interface allows real-time adjustment of focus, aperture, and zoom via sliders, which is particularly useful in hard-to-reach installation locations.
Product selection
LensConnect technology is available in various lens types:
Fixed focal lengths:
Available in focal lengths from 8mm to 75mm (e.g., Computar DL5028UC-MPY with 50mm).
Varifocal lenses:
Also enable remote zoom, available in ranges such as 9mm-50mm or 16mm-96mm.
Telecentric lenses:
The TEC-ML series offers magnifications from 0.25x to 2.0x for high-precision measurement tasks.
